In June 2023, Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities (The Guild) launched seventeen research clusters aiming to address critical common societal challenges through transformative, collaborative research and high-level capacity building on the African continent. The MCID will play a key role in two Clusters of Research Excellence, CoREs, Genomics for Health in Africa and Advanced Infectious Diseases Research and Training.
Genomics for Health Africa
CoRE Genomics for Health in Africa (GHA) will focus on genomics, protein structural analysis and structure-informed drug design to monitor and tackle infectious diseases, rare diseases and rare cancers. The CoRE aims to develop research capacity through the realisation of a split-site/sandwich doctoral program as well as academic exchange program between all partner institutions.
