Dr. Obdulio García-Nicolás, short biography

Dr. García-Nicolás studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Murcia, Spain. After earning his degree, he worked for one year as a clinician in a veterinary clinic specialized in exotic animals. Following this, he completed a Master in Scientific and Professional Swine Industry at the University of Murcia, then carrying out a PhD in the research group of Veterinary Histology and Pathologic Anatomy of the same University. During the course of his PhD he spent a total of one year in different institutions including the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency, in New Haw, UK; and the Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI) in Mittelhäusern. In 2014 he joined the research group of Professor Artur Summerfield at the IVI as a postdoctoral fellow, and from 2020 as a Staff Scientist Researcher within the same group. Obdulio was granted a MCID Career Development Grant as co-applicant with Professor Charaf Benarafa in a project entitled “Role of sheep and rodent reservoirs for Wesselsbron, a neglected zoonotic flavivirus”, which began in 2022.
