Dr. Jessica Laine Carmeli, short biography
Dr. Jessica Laine Carmeli received a Doctor of Philosophy in May 2017, from the Department of Epidemiology, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in the United States of America, assessing the role of maternal nutrients and toxicants during pregnancy on birth outcomes. After, she moved to London where she received a competitive fellowship (Medical Research Council Early Career Research Fellow) in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Imperial College London investigating the role of the exposome in perinatal health. After meeting her Swiss husband, Jessica moved to Switzerland where she worked in two different postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute for Social and Preventative Medicine (ISPM) and contributed to various teaching. Her fellowships at ISPM were interrupted by pregnancy related sick leave and maternity leave. Now, Jessica works 50% as a Research Associate at ISPM, supported by the MCID, at the University of Bern and she works 40% in developing my own epidemiological consulting business, and as a writer and birth educator.
Jessica has published a number of research articles, including the following selected publications:
